Description:
Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, 1978. "I love to burn things up," King says. "It's the werewolf in me, I guess.... The Stand was particularly fulfilling, because there I got a chance to scrub the whole human race, and man, it was fun! ... Much of the compulsive, driven feeling I had while I worked on The Stand came from the vicarious thrill of imagining an entire entrenched social order destroyed in one stroke." "There is much to admire in The Stand: the vivid thumbnail sketches with which King populates a whole landscape with dozens of believable characters; the deep sense of nostalgia for things left behind; the way it subverts our sense of reality by showing us a world we find familiar, then flipping it over to reveal the darkness underneath. Anyone who wants to know, or claims to know, the heart of the American experience needs to read this book" (Fiona Webster). It was the basis for the 1994 American television miniseries. King also wrote the teleplay… Read More

Description:
West Kingston, RI: Donald M. Grant, 1984. Second Edition. The Gunslinger begins the quest by Roland, the gunslinger, to track and confront the "man in black," who knows, perhaps, the secret of the "Dark Tower." As he travels across the barren landscape of King's alternate world, sometimes alone, sometimes with a boy named Jake, Roland recalls fragments of his own past. He finally confronts the man in black, who reads his future with a Tarot deck" (Barron, Horror Literature: A Reader's Guide 4-164). Among King's most widely-read works, successfully merging elements of the spaghetti western and epic fantasy. Basis for Nikolaj Arcel's 2017 film adaptation (The Dark Tower), starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. An association copy of the highest caliber. To the casual reader, the connection between King and John D. MacDonald (1916-1986) may not be immediately apparent, but despite a 31 year age difference, there was a strong friendship between the two men, and depth of mutual admiration. Prior… Read More

Bangor, Maine: Philtrum Press, 1982-1983. "On June 7, 2000, King posted a letter on his official Web site soliciting opinions from his 'Constant Readers' as to whether or not he should publish The Plant...The first installment was posted in early July and monthly installments continued through December, at which point King declared that the six installments published comprised the first part of the novel and that that section was called 'Zenith Rising'" (Spignesi: The Essential Stephen King 177). King wrote a few parts of The Plant and sent them out as chapbooks to his friends, instead of Christmas cards, in 1982, 1983, and 1985. Philtrum Press produced three installments before the story was shelved, with the original editions now regarded as highly desirable collector's items.

Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, 1978. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/Near fine. One of King's best novels, an apocalyptic book about the near-extinction of the human race. 823 pages. First edition (first printing, a stated "First Edition" and yes, there is the code T39 on page 823, which is not a point of issue, all copies that state "first editions" have that code). Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with the $12.95 price. This is a very nice copy, inscribed by King, "For Barry-hoped you liked this tale of love and horror beyond the end of the world-Stephen King. 4/22/83." This is King's typical good inscription in The Stand and you won't find many nicer copies.
