New-York, 10 décembre 1959. 1 tirage (270 x 260 mm), postérieur [1999], par le photographe, signé au recto et note signée et certificat au verso, encadrement maison Havard.
"Kack Kerouac creating a poem with Lew Welchand Albert Saijo, at Mc Darrah's New-York apartement, December 10, 1959".
Lew Welsh (David Wain's character in "Big Sur") and Albert Saijo published with Kerouac "Trip-trap", the book of haikus they wrote during the trip from San Francisco to New York, from September to December 1959. The final corrections were made on the spot, and this photograph captures the atmosphere: cigarettes, alcohol, a slightly puffy, tired face.
Fred Mc Darrah recounts, the photographer, tells : "We went to the same bars, we went to the same places, and there were poetry readings everywhere. The main meeting place was the Living Theatre, which put on dance shows and plays. All this took place in New York,… Read More

A perfect copy, in a strictly contemporary binding by Paul Bonet.
This is the first of Bonet's two bindings for this work, and the only one on this first deluxe paper.
Sartre's autobiographical account first appeared in two issues of Les Temps modernes (October and November 1963), before being published by Gallimard in April 1964. Despite Sartre's polemical image in French public opinion at the time, press tributes were unanimous, and the often inspired titles of the many articles that reviewed the book reflected the surprise and general emotion generated by Les Mots.
Without doubt his greatest and best book. And… Read More

"In this extraordinary poem, surprises of new images arose at every turn, as the poet described the impulses, the regrets of the goat-foot contemplating, on the edge of the marsh, the tufts of reeds still retaining, in an ephemeral mould, the hollow form of the naiads who had filled it. Then, des Esseintes also experienced captious delights in feeling this tiny plate, L'Après-midi d'un faune" (in Huysmans, "À rebours"). Paris, Gallimard, (March 4) 1957. 1 vol. (120 x 190 mm) of 231 p., [3] and 1 f. Paperback, uncut. First edition. One of 210 copies on pur fil (no. 146)Inscribed : "to Monsieur Gian-Franco Zaffrani, in very cordial and faithful homage, Albert Camus". The six short stories in L'Exil et le royaume (La Femme adulère, Le Renégat, Les Muets, L'Hôte, Jonas and La Pierre qui pousse) were all written between 1954 and 1955.
La Chute was originally a seventh short story, before Camus turned it into a full-length novel - as recalled in the February 1957 insert: "La Chute, before becoming a full-length narrative, was part of L'Exil et le Royaume. This collection comprises six short stories (...). Yet a single theme, that of exile, is treated in six different ways, from interior monologue to realistic narrative. In fact, all six stories were written in succession, although they were taken up and worked on separately. As for the kingdom also referred to in the title, it coincides with a certain free and naked… Read More

Jack Kerouac, in this month of November 2023, would have been 101 years old. He died on October 21, 1969, at the age of 47: he lived the last months of his life in a modest bungalow at 5169 10th Avenue North, in St. Petersburg, Florida, in the company of his mother Gabrielle-Ange, with whom he conversed all his life in French - and his third wife Stella. His mother survived him by four years, his wife, Stella, by 21. When he died, his brother, John Sampas, became the executor of the Kerouac family archives and property.
In the last years of the 1960s, if there was one last destination that haunted him, it was Brittany, France, his roots. Kerouac became increasingly concerned with it,… Read More

Paris, Édition du carrefour, (December 20) 19291 vol. (185 x 245 mm) unpaginated. Framed long-grain black morocco bradel, gilt title on spine, first board decorated with an X-ray under mica, gilt head, covers preserved, slipcase (binding signed by Loutrel).First edition. Preface by André Breton.146 collages by Max Ernst. One of 900 copies on tinted vellum paper (no. 237).
Max Ernst presents here his first collages, full of hallucinations, far from the Dadaism of his early days, where poetic and humorous creations follow one another. André Breton underlines the value of cuts of which surrealism is capable: to reveal a marvelous and dreamlike world, unreal and illusory.
Stunning binding by Patrick Loutrel, who has inserted an X-ray of a spine and cervical vertebrae on the first cover.
Angular restoration to the leaf of the last plate.

Handsigned inscription: "à M. René Lalou avec la gratitude et les sentiments de vive sympathie d'Albert Camus".
The post-war period marks a period of growing fame for Camus. From L'Etranger to the committed writings of Combat, Camus remained faithful to his values, to his friends, and to those to whom he owed much. The "gratitude" mentioned here to René Lalou is the same as the one he will evoke at the same time to his other "masters": his teachers in Algiers and Oran, the Louis Germain, the Paul Mathieu, the Jean Grenier, and René Lalou, an English teacher in Oran, at the Lycée Lamoricière. The city where, at the end of 1940, Francine and Albert Camus - who had just married in Lyon - settled at… Read More

Paris, Julliard, (January 8) 1963. 1 vol. (135 x 195 mm) of 265 p. and [3] f. Publisher's cold-stamped green cloth. Numbered true first edition (no. 228 R). In the novel, the hero is a world away from the American adaptation, where the majestic Charlton Heston plays Captain George Taylor. And the Planet of the Apes, if it exists at all, is not Planet Earth. But Pierre Boulle's ending is just as effective and surprising!
Pierre Boulle imagines that natural evolution will strip man of his pre-eminence over other living species, in favor of the apes. The idea came to him during a visit to the zoo, while observing the gorillas. He says: "I was impressed by their almost human expressions. This led me to imagine what a human/ape relationship would be like. Some people think I had King Kong in mind when I wrote my book, but I didn't." In the novel, the hero goes by the unassuming - not to say ridiculous - name of Ulysses Merou - a far cry from the American adaptation, where the majestic Charlton Heston plays… Read More

First edition, dedicated to Henri III. The book is considered to be one of the great polemical texts of the 16th century, of great interest for French history.
The author, a Huguenot, tried to show King Henry III that he could use three "magic pearls" to remedy the wreckage of his kingdom: they represented the Word of God, the true Nobility and the Third Estate, hidden in a jewel box that was none other than the kingdom of France. In this way, he revealed the true mores of his time, denouncing the possessions of the clergy and the vices of the nobility, discussing polygamy and prostitution, and revealing a number of secrets relating to the king and the… Read More

Description:
Le Matin des magiciens is a book written by Louis Pauwels and Jacques Bergier in 1960 or in October 1959. It was first published in English in 1963 with the title "The Morning of the Magicians" and was a general overview of the occult and the works of Charles Fort. Le Matin des magiciens was highly influential in the way it presented occult subjects to a populist audience and spawned many books imitating its style.
The Morning of the Magicians became an international best seller, with over 800,000 copies sold worldwide. The book was a collaboration of ideas spanning a wide variety of subjects from Nazi occultism to supernatural phenomena and the place of mankind in the universe relative to traditional philosophical positions. It also temporarily renewed interest in the works of Arthur Machen.

1 vol. (175 x 230 mm) de 91 p. Percaline rose ancien et chemise à rabats illustrée de l'éditeur.
First edition. One on 260 signed and numbered copy (n° 33).
The iconic signed first edition of one of the world's most famous books.
After the publication of Pilote de guerre (Flight to Arras) on February 20, 1942, Americans were bowled over by the writer's story: the novel topped the bestseller lists in the USA for six months. In France, only 2,100 copies of the book were published at the end of the year, but the Vichy authorities banned it.
Because Saint-Exupéry often drew a little character, Curtice Hitchcock, his American publisher, suggested he write a children's story. Saint-Exupéry decided to illustrate the story himself, and immediately set to work. He buys paper, colored pencils and watercolors, and isolates himself with his wife Consuelo in the Bevin House mansion in New Jersey. Cloistered in his library, he worked in fits and starts, usually at night.… Read More
