The first US edition of James's novel about an outcry over selling great British works out of the country, issued simultaneously with the first English edition. One of James's two unfinished novels at the time of his death, here complete in the scarce jacket. This copy comes from the personal collection of Caldecott Medal-winning illustrator Maurice Sendak.
