About This Item

Garden City: Doubleday & Co., 1971. First Edition, First Printing. . Hardcover. Near Fine/About Very Good. The author and social critic, who assaulted the American establishment, mom, pop, the military, religion, American sex roles and national hypocrisy in "The Generation Of Vipers," excoriates the U.S. educational system and the entire population -- teachers, students, liberals, conservatives, parents, offspring -- as "the relatively most ignorant human beings ever to exist." Not one American in a hundred, no matter how well educated, knows enough to form a valuable opinion on any major issue, Wylie says. If you enjoy a good, literate rant, Wylie's your writer; and this polemic on education hasn't lost its edge since its publication nearly forty years ago. The bottom edge of the text is lightly foxed, o/w the boards and text are clean, tight, square; the white dustjacket shows some soiling and age-discoloration on the spine and edges and some minor surface and edgewear, no significant tears or chipping. A collectable copy.
