New York: Harper & Bros, 1938. Second edition. Hardcover. Fine. Hardcover in emeraled green buckram cloth with spine and front cover titled in black with gilt lettering. A tight copy, sunning to the spine strip. No jacket. The first collected book of White's poetry. The pieces were written between 1928 and 1938, many of which appeared in The New Yorker, The Saturday Review, The American Mercury, and The Herald Tribune. The collection is gathered into five general sections: "Ballads and Songs of an Eventful Nature" (the first is the humorous title poem, written from the point of view of a fox in Peapack in northern New Jersey); "Songs Having to Do with Greater New York", "Songs of Childbirth, Paternity, mand Routine Domestic Disturbances", "Book Reviews', and "Love Songs, Also Tow of Three Poems of a Cosmic Character". E.B. White (1899-1985) would most famously go on to write "Stuart Little", "Charlette's Web" and "Trumpet of The Swan
