About This Item
Bramhall House, 1961. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 369 pages, plus 12 pages front matter, with indexes of titles, first lines, and explanatory material; bibliography; key to guitar chords used in the book; introduction. Decorations by William Bars. Sixty-five ballad topics are explored, some with several versions, and matched with Child ballad numbers. Piano settings and guitar chords are given for one of the versions each time, along with multiple verses. All were collected by Niles in Appalachia in the early 20th century. Imperial 8vo (8-3/4" x 11-1/4") green cloth with dark green lettering, dark green end papers have maps of Appalachia in knockout type, wear to crown/heel/corners, edges age-toned, faint foxing to fore-edge and on a few pages. No writing or marks observed. Laid in are two photographs of Niles, one being the trimmed remnant of the front panel of the DJ of this book, the other one evidently clipped from a magazine. Large book, may require shipping surcharge depending on destination.
