About This Item

Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press, 1969. 239 pp, large 8vo (9 3/16" H). "This is the first critical study of F. Scott Fitzgerald based on his complete works from the Princeton juvenilia to 'The Last Tycoon'. In a work-by-work analysis, Sergio Perosa reveals the literary craftsman who through the conscious use of a Europeanized technique gave artistic form to the American experience. Fitzgerald's personal life - his early success at 23 and his failure by the age of 30 - has obscured his literary reputation, making him more a legend than anything else. This book restores Fitzgerald to his rightful place in American literature. Perosa gives the date and circumstances of each composition, discusses the various texts, compares the protagonists, analyzes the themes, and reveals the creative apparatus that made Fitzgerald great. (This book) presents a well-balanced appraisal of the writer who was the laureate of the Jazz Age. It discusses Fitzgerald's roots in both American and British literature and points out his contributions to the craft of fiction." Very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, minor edgewear, slight bump at top corner of boards. Dust jacket is price clipped, has very light edge wrinkling, light to moderate rubbing.. Second Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good-.
