Considers the life and work of North Carolina artist Eugene Healan Thomason (1895-1972). After going to New York to study with Henri, this artist retreated to the Appalachians to paint in relative obscurity. He was a close friend of Luks, and while he was in New York, often painted with him. When he was in NYC, he was sponsored by James B. Duke, and also did commissioned portraiture.
