Having almost exhausted my research of John Brown, I found this book to be a wonderful highlight to a fascinating endeavor. Where most authors tread a line of ambiguity towards their opinion of the Old Man, it is obvious that Nelson wears his respect firmly on his sleeve in this novel of historical fiction. How this story of Bleeding Kansas has not made it in to the annals of Hollywood is a mystery but I suspect it will someday. Regardless, it is history worth investigating and this is a perfect place to start.
