This reference guidebook is a must-have for amateurs interested in identifying tree species in the eastern portion of north america. About one-half of the book contains clear pictures which details bark, leaves, flowers, fruit, and fall leaf colors. The second half of the book contains descriptive identifications of each species. Both sections cross reference each other logically and efficiently. The small size of the book and its durable rubberized cover makes it an ideal field guide. The book lacks descriptions of some cultivars, such as color variants of the Norway Maple and other exotic tree species, but these omissions do not detract from the value of the overall product. Published in 1980 through Albert A Knopf, the book is authored by Elbert L Little, former Chief Dendrologist for the U.S. Forest Service.
