Vol. 1: 243, [1] p., [1] folding lithographic map; v. 2: 355, [1] p., 1 folding lithographic view, 1 engraved view, 2 folding lithographic maps. In a later cloth slipcase. Winslow Homer's copy of the first edition of Willis's History of Portland, with his ownership inscription in pencil on the front paste-down in each volume, reading " W. Homer Scarboro Me." Homer lived at Prout's Neck in Scarborough, just south of Portland,from 1883 to 1910. It was there that Homer painted his great seascapes and assumed his full stature as one of the towering figures in American art. REFERENCES: Williamson 10793.
