Plomteux, 1771. Leather Binding. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. A delightful small 18th-century French edition of Virgil in a period binding. Bound in full brown 18th-century speckled calf, spine with raised bands, red morocco label, and gilt floral tooling, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers (some rubbing to spine tips, corners and edges; front outer hinge starting; ome wear to text edges; ink inscription). Remains of the bookplate of Charles Carron.

[5], 2-298, [2] pp. Contemporary full mottled calf with the spine in six compartments, a red morocco label lettered in gilt on the spine, gilt decorations and rules on the spine; all edges marbled. Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Publisher's device on the title page, with a few engraved head and tailpieces. New translation into French with notes by M. DeLille. Brunet 661. Graesse 359. The first edition of DeLille's Georgics. Brunet and Graesse are both highly complementary of this translation. Two small chips to the binding, boards moderately bowed.

Geneve, 1777. Hardcover. Near Fine. 16mo. 192pp. Engraved portrait. Contemporary full red calf ruled in gilt, and with elaborate gilt thistle spine devices, with green morocco(?) spine label gilt. Name neatly excised from bottom of the title page, small contemporary bookplate of "Fr. Gay", corners a little rubbed, a pleasing, near fine volume.

Half-calf over marbled boards, marbled endpapers, gilt lettrng & compartments on spine, raised bands (rebackd w/ original spine laid-bk down, mnr rubbng & scuffng to crnrs, cvrs), a very good clean copy. First edition, thus of this exceedingly scarce Polyglot edition of the works of Virgil, including the Bucolics, Georgics, and the Aeneid. In addition to the invaluable comparison provided by this multi-lingual edition, there is the excellent bibliography of all the important editions and translations of Virgil up to the early 19th century. Polyglot editions of theological and religious works are fairly common, but not for classical authors such as this work.
