Spines with ribbons, gilt title on spines; top edges gilt, uncut. Marbled endpapers. (Superficial tears in hinges; corners sl. bumped; ribbons dented). Tome I: (iv) pp., p. 5-9, (i:blank) p. 234 leaves, 18 pp. (P.5-9: Amb. F. Didot, Avis sur la IVe édition du Recueil). Tome II: (iv)pp., leaves 235-513, 19 pp. - 2 engraved titles and 513 engraved plates by Huyot, with explanatory text in French and Italian opposite. The plates are reproduced from the 3 editions by Vecellio: 1590, 1598 and 1664. All the plates and texts have different decorative ornamental borders in woodcut: flower ornaments and architectural ornaments. The 18 and resp. 19 pages at the end: "Tables des Matières". - Some brown spots, mainly in the first quires of each volume, but a good set.

Questa importante opera, illustrata da disegni del pittore Cesare Vecellio (cugino di Tiziano), fu pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1590 e ristampata nel 1598 e nel 1664. Cfr. Colas,2980 - Graesse,VII,267: "Cette nouvelle edit. reproduit exactement tous les costumes figurés dans les trois premières, mais cette fois dessinés plus correctement par M.
