Contains 2 books, separately paginated. Pages are mildly tanned, with moderate foxing, but text remains clear. Binding is firm. A couple library labels to front endpapers. Boards have moderate shelf-wear, with noticeable corner bumping and some scuffing to edges. Spine and edges are moderately tanned, with slight crushing and splitting to ends. Various noticeable marks overall, with water stains to front board, and black marks to rear. Label to rear board.

Paper is split on pastedown hinges, but binding remains intact. Text is clear throughout. HJW. Hardcover. Good/No Dust Jacket. Ex-Library.

Full thin-leather-bound with stamped gilt spine titles. 12mo; 7.5 inches tall; 682 pages; New Edition; Tissue guarded frontispiece of Prescott; all edges gilt. Faint sun-fading on the spine, partial fold 1.5 inches from the front edge of front cover. Bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear.. All of the essays except the first were originally contributed to the North American review. Background Information: William Hickling Prescott was an American historian and Hispanist, who is widely recognized by historiographers to have been the first American scientific historian.

This is a worn-covers copy, of which the interior is quite the opposite.  Aside from the pencilled signature in the f.e.p.s, there is only a slight, faded dampstain and a tiny marginal tear or two in the text, making this an adequate replacement to fill in a Prescott series.

Harper and Brothers, 1852. Cloth. Fair. This is an early edition of the great American historian's essay collection. Binding is nice and tight, but leather spine covering has come away, and there is some further loss on corners and covers. Foxing present throughout.
