Rubbing to front and back gutter with a thin line of plain leather beneath showing through in spots, more on front than back. Binding tight, spine straight, corners solid. Leather on boards is slightly dulled/rubbed, but it retains its texture and the gilt is bright. Shelfwear to spine ends. Hinge starting inside front cover. Former owner's name and gift inscription with two dates in pencil on blank page before half-title. Pages are toned, but contents of volume are otherwise clean and unmarked, both the text block and the 210 Giacomelli illustrations, some full-page sized. Gilt page ends at top, bottom and fore-edge.
