Description:
Philadelphia: Chilton Book Company, 1968. [xxii], 383p. + 8p. photos, warmly inscribed by Ford to African American journalist Eugene Gordon (a contributor; ten pages indexed), first edition purple cloth boards, casing much-handled, dust-soiled and edgeworn, all edges dirty (as are some leaves within). spine creased and slightly sloped. Remnants of the dj have been reassembled and preserved. This tribute to Cunard---well-described by the book's subtitle---combines her own prose and poetry with paeans from those she befriended and influenced. Langston Hughes provided a one-page prologue; considerable space is devoted to her support of African American struggles during the 1930s (not least, underwriting the splendid Negro Anthology), as well as on the Spanish Civil War.
