The State of Ohio, 1896. Hardcover. Octavo, Two Volumes. In Good condition. Spines are red with gilt lettering. Half bound in red leather with black cloth boards. Boards show rubbing to front and back boards, rubbing and minor bumping to fore edge corners. Boards show minor rubbing to fore edges, with minor tearing to fore edge of back board and tail edge of front board on Vol I. Boards show minor rubbing to hinges, moderate rubbing and creasing to spines. Boards show moderate rubbing, bumping, and tearing to headcaps and tails, with slight exposure to binding. Front hinge of Vol II shows moderate plus tearing, board is slightly loose. Bindings are slightly loose. Ownership inscriptions on inside of front board on paste down paper. Columbus, OH: Henry Howe & Son, 1890. Hardcover. Fair. The Ohio Centennial Edition, in two volumes although this is actually all three volumes. The first book (737 pages) is volume one. The second book contains volume two (634 pages) and volume three (612 pages plus addenda). The title page and the double spread with the Ohio map are loose in the first book. The pages are clear and clean with a light water stain on part on volume one. Boards are red with gold decoration on the cover, spine lettering is faded. The back board of volume one is in very poor condition. Text block is coming away from the boards on both books. This set is a good candidate for rebinding.

The State Of Ohio. Used - Good. 1896. hardcover. Cloth with paper title labels, rebinding. Quarto. Two volume set. xxvi & 1004 pp, xx & 911 pp. Illustrated. Mild shelf wear to boards. Pages mildly toned. Altogether a very sound complete set. Good. (Subject: Americana & Regional History).

Both volumes are in NEAR FINE condition showing the title labels very slightly rubbed, several early pages lightly thumbed at the corners, otherwise the bindings are strong and tight, the text and engravings are exceptionally clean and unmarked, and the boards remain handsome, bright, and distinct. As pictured.

A very handsome set, rebound at some expense in 1/2 brown calf spines over blue boards, with spine labels, and a custom-made cloth slipcase. Cream endpapers. Some very minor dust-soiling to the fore-edges of both volumes, which had likely been in a rough exterior state before this rebind. Overall, about fine; really a superlative example of this cornerstone volume of Ohioana, fit for the most demanding collector.
