Description:
Kent Town, SA, Australia: Wakefield Crime Classic, 1993. 1st. Ed. Trade paperback, Wakefield Crime Classic #5. Afterword by series eds. Michael Tolley & Peter Moss. (originally published 1924). No US edition. AS NEW. "Anyone with money is a god, anywhere. Here, you may be the biggest, vilest, ugliest, most diseased blackguard in the state, but if there's cash behind you, you're respected." John Archibald Cups is a bitter young man. Falsely accused of embezzlement by his banking employers, he's turned against respectable Adelaide, where the hypocrisy of the racecourse rules. Protected by his false face, false identities, and false fortune, he's racing to out-jockey the hounds of the law. "The Secret of the Garden" is a reckless outlaw's tale, and another great addition to the Wakefield Crime Classics series.. First Edition. Pictorial Wrappers. As New. Illus. by Singleton, Cameron. Description:
NOTICE: THIS COPY IS MISSING ONE LEAF (pg. 11/12). DUE TO ITS SCARCE NATURE, WE ARE LISTING IT FOR SALE ANYWAY. Presumably first edition. 312 p. [-2]. A well-loved scarce vintage hardcover with browned pages and that lovely old book scent. Possibly ex-library (see images) with all the signs of repeated use: shaken, with edgewear, abrasions, markings, tears, creases, stains, etc., etc. Page 11/12 has been mostly torn away (see images). From GoogleBooks: As British liaison officer to the CIA and FBI in 1949, Kim Philby held a position at the heart of the Western intelligence war against the Soviets. The quintessential Englishman, Philby was also an officer in the KGB. Here is the story that Philby revealed to the only Western journalist he trusted.

Description:
Paperback / softback. New. Peter Wacks was an unimpressive and weak man until he came across a mysterious "red paste." Suddenly, from a harmless being, he turned into a ruthless and cold-blooded killer! Like Jekyll and Hyde, he goes on a murder rampage in the night and during daytime becomes a detective to find the so-called murderer. Will Peter be able to outwit himself and stop his descent into chaos and madness? Or will he succumb under his negative self? Excerpt: "I shall never know what dreadful impulse compels me to write it all down. My life is so many, many times forfeit to the State that were my hideous secret to become known, even now, after all these years, within an hour infuriated crowds would gather at my gate and I should be torn limb from limb without the slightest hope of mercy or reprieve. I shall never be forgiven. My crimes were too brutal. I spared neither young nor old, and every deed of violence that could bring pain and horror it was fiendish joy to do...
