Tight and VG+ (former owner bookplate at the front pastedown, tucked behind the front flap) in a crisp, VG+ dustjacket, with very light creasing --and one or two tiny closed tears-- along the panel edges. Almost certainly published in 1955, just on the heels of the 1st issue. One of the 6 infamous Dr. Seuss titles to recently come under censorship.

Meets the first state requirement of 10 titles listed on rear jacket panel from "Horton Hears a Who!" to "Mulberry Street." Price is clipped but "$2.95" in pencil (faded and obviously old) is written below the clipped corner. This is virtually certain to mean the dust jacket is the first state, with the $2.50 price having been clipped by the bookseller and $2.95 (which was printed on the later second state dust jacket) added by them in pencil. A very attractive copy of the first edition.
