This book was originally printed privately in 1944, based on articles written for the "Westmorland Gazette", then in 1945 was published by the Westmorland Gazette and reprinted several times. This copy is from the 1983 reprint. More than 50 farmhouses, each with a page of exterior and interior photographs faced by a page do of narrative. Including, just as random examples, Burneside Hall, Fellfoot Farm (Langdale), Heversham Hall, Townend (Troutbeck), Yanwath Hall. A goldmine for local and family historians as well as those interested in the vernacular architecture of Cumbria or the North of England more generally. A beautifully preserved copy in a transparent wrapper. (The wrapper has yellowed but the dustjacket under it is virtually pristine). An excellent local history researched and written by enthusiastic and well-informed amateur local historians in Nidderdale in Yorkshire. Much on the history of lead mining. A good clean copy. Previous owner's name in front. Binding intact with only very light creasing to the spine. 13.5 x 21 cm. 522 pages
