Description:
Chicago: Biographical Publishing Company, 1885. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Quarto, 834 pages, bottom marginal tears to pages 513-522 (which had special interest to the prior owner), curios brown, powdery stains to some central pages, original covers, rebacked in 1959 with brown buckram with the original spine laid down. Surprisingly Rare. [ Buck 845 - citing only 1 location ] An excellent "mug book". Chock-a-block with portraits - including several women!! This work has been reprinted in this modern era, but the reprints do not do justice to these portraits of ancestors. Note: the first white settler in this county was a physician - but he had no one to dose! Includes a full-page lithograph portrait of Wa-bo-kies-shiek, or White Cloud, the Prophet of the Winnebagoes: the portrait faces his biography.
