Description:
No place: Norm Sharp, 1940. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. Sharp, Norm. (no place): Norm Sharp, 1940. Spelling, "Chilpangcingo" for Chilpancingo is as presented, but that is a spelling which, though rare, has been used. Five small original watercolor illustrations by the author/artist, Norm Sharp, of this apparently unique piece grace various pages. See scans for some of these.Folio, black leather boards with gilt cover imprinting around comb-bound contents, untrimmed woven paper, unpaginated but [2] + 24 + [2}, though the 24 pages are printed only on the recto, making 12 pages (leaves). Presentation inscription by Sharp, with one of the little watercolor illustrations, on the feep, dated Christmas, 1940. An amazing item, hard to categorize with certainty. Possibly a one-off, this is either an imaginative short story occurring in dust of countryside Mexico, or, as presented...a true story; a supernatural one, at least as perceived by the author. It has a…

Description:
1980. First Edition . Soft cover. Fine. Original pencil drawing in gray and brown tones by science-fiction illustrator O. Raymond Sowers. Unsigned. Exposed image area in images is 15.5" x 6.5" (wood frame not included). A meticulously drawn image of a chained, nude slave, from behind, whip lash mark on the slaves torso and legs. Slave is mesomorphic, well-toned muscularly, but has something of an androgynous appearance from behind. O. Raymond Sowers created illustrations for ERB-dom - i.e. Edgar Rice Burroughs-related publishing; see Erbzine (June 1974 issue (no.77)] and The Pulp Era, including the cover for no. 70, 1969). Probably created as a fantasy story illustration, but a dramatic piece for a BDSM decor theme, as well. Frame not included. BG303

Description:
no place: unknown, 1935. No Binding. Fine. Fine vintage painting in Very Good vintage frame. Large; outside frame dimensions are 36" x 30". See scanned images. The painting has been identified as a likely early-to-mid-twentieth century Japanese Painted Paper Panel; it is executed on an Old Gold-hued material with a silk-like appearance (though it is probably a type of paper), impregnated with occasional gold glitter flecks. The border is Old Gold color silk brocade. Subject is a peaceful rural village, and it's one which has a remarkably tranquilizing effect when it is studied in solitude; hence, may have been executed in a Zen spirit. The combination of that spirit with an oddly gold-luminous appearance in certain lighting from certain angles, and its large size, yields a rather unique experience for the viewer, at times. It hangs here now, in my residence, by itself. The artist is as yet unidentified, but there is a signature, along with a Han character, at the lower left, beneath…

Description:
1974. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Near Fine. Near Fine. Original art: a thoroughly stunning example of Spencerian Penmanship art. Crafted by a master of the craft, Shigeo Asao, with pitch-black ink on paper. Originally a method of rules for teaching cursive writing to children, "Spencerian Penmanship" was created in the mid-1800's by Platt Rogers Spencer, who grew up admiring the graceful lines of the John Hancock signature on the Declaration of Independence, and his five sons. It stood in contrast to Italian calligraphy [which was developed for speed only] particularly in its capital letters, which were to be accomplished in artful flourishes unique to the writer's style. The writing form has occasionally been taken to its extremes as a beautiful form of graphic art, as in the case of this August, 1974 Spencerian Birds-of-Paradise rendering by Shigeo Asao. The Spencerian Bird form is an expression in Spencerian cursive art of a bird-of-paradise-like creature or creatures (three…

London: Flame Tree Publishing (Sevenarts, Ltd), 2008. Hardcover. Fine. Fine. London: Flame Tree Publishing, 2008 (calendar publisher) / Colchester, Essex: Sevenarts, Ltd. (original art). A uniquely striking - rather gorgeous, in truth - double-glass framed (i.e., sandwiched) page from the Flame Tree 2008 "Starstruck" Calendar, the reverse of the August leaf, showing a striking, almost breathtaking princess of unknown ancient race releasing her similarly un-nameable bird familiar to join its mates as they disappear into a dark - but inviting - forest. The birds, the lady's robes, and a few morning sunbeams are trimmed in shimmery motes of glitter. So much the quintessence of art deco - and of something else that's a bit inexplicable - that I really hate to even sell it. It's on my wall for now. Outside frame dimensions are 10 5/16" square, and this flat black frame is a thick one for its size, at 3/4"; but it has to be to allow the glass that traps, all around, the…

no publisher, 1970. Soft cover. Fine. 11' x 8 3/4. Hickman, Stephen. Stephen Hickman, 1970. Original illustration, by some accounts prior to the start of his professional career. Image area 11" x 8 3/4". Black matted at 14 3/4" x 12 1/4". Pen and ink on illustration board; Fine condition. Annotations on the back, including the remark "inside front", have the look of a layout editor's comments, indicating possible publication somewhere, though his for-pay career as an artist, by conventional record, started in 1972 when he began to illustrate for T-shirts in Maryland - and then went on to become one of the great sci-fi and fantasy artists of the past three decades. Provenance contact provided to purchaser. This is a picture of a Musketeer in mid-combat, thrusting his sword outward at the viewer (see scan), as might have been done for a men's adventure magazine. Whether he was amateur or professional at the time - a piece of collectible value. L-lng2

A quick sell-out McPherson signed print edition, from the world of contemporary art, "lowbrow", which was itself expanded greatly by publisher Hi-Fructose, whose quarterly periodical first appeared in 2005. Publisher's rather poetic description of this Tara McPherson piece as follows: "Fractals of lightning highlighting the beautiful geometry of nature and emotion.
