Clearly used book: boards rubbed from shelf wear, cocked spine not very tight; and adhesive used to apply clear plastic protective cover; at least this did minimize creasing and surface wear of DJ. DJ on bottom back edge is rubbed, creased and chipped as are both ends of spine and all corners.

Macmillan, 1940. 4th Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/No DJ. Age toned page edges, mild wear overall. A sweeping kiss and tell narrative with Axis vs Allies as its organizing principle. Written in a style that tempts quotation, take page 172 for example: "This is the situation. It is as simple as poker. Uncle Sam must alter the Hull trade policy, with all that means elsewhere, or he must force the Gaucho to play by the rules of the Hull policy -- the game according to Hoyle. Otherwise he gets out of the game. His getting out will hurt him less than the Gaucho; but the Gaucho is pretty young and pretty cocky, and he simply does not see it that way. He is playing Uncle Sam for a sucker and feeling pretty heady about it. The only man who wins, of course, is Herr Hitler, who eggs the Gaucho on, telling him that Uncle Sam is a Jewish Communist and that the game according to Hoyle is finished.
