London: England Sterioviews, 1860. Early printing. Photograph. Very good condition. A scarce and important early photographer who came to the United States in 1859, "the first American views to be published abroad commercially, using a revolutionary shutter which improved the images depth of focus."* This arched albumen prints show the "Dock house" with ferry and West Point in the distance. The verso with descriptive text and monogram of an eagle over the words United States of America. The text states that this ferry is the link between the Hudson River Railway and West Point. New York: B. M. Whitlock, 1885. From General Holabird's book on US Military uniforms. This view is taken from the front porch of the commandant, who sits imposingly in front of a cadet, other officers at his side. In the distance is the parade ground, the dome to the old Cadet Library, and Mess Hall. In the far distance are the hills of Garrison on the opposite side of the Hudson River. Chromolithograph, printed in color, 1885. Very slightly & uniformly browned in margins otherwise very good.

The map "1866 West Point and It's Vicinity" is a gem, including details on both sides of the river, including Garrison & Cold Spring, marking the Foundry and the Highland Hotel, which sat on the site of the Garrison School parking lot. Other locations include the Hudson River Rail Road, Robinson House, Garrison's, Indian (Ind.) Falls, Constitution Island, Cat Pond, Cold Spring and three ferry routes, one from Cold Spring to Trophy Point, and two from Garrisons, to West Point and Cozzen's hotel at Buttermilk Falls. Roads and Turnpikes are marked as well as numerous named ponds. Presentation copy, to Benjamin Moffatt Jr., compliments of G. M. Van Duzer. With a folding New Year's card from the Van Duzer Homestead with b&w photographic image titled "Mantle Motto", and text concerning the Van Duzer homestead, loosely inserted. The Donovan article concerning the West Point Chain, pp 21-25. The lists of officers heavily annotated. . 8vo, 48pp. Tan paper wrappers, title in brown at front wrapper, with crest of the Historical Society of Warwick, and index to articles. No title at spine. Spine ends and lower corner front wrapper a bit rubbed.

New York: Andres, 1940. Reprint. Reprint large folio collotype with hand color. The view is from Route 403 looking down across Garrison to the Hudson. A very finely reproduced collotype by Andres' Inc. of New York. Andres' produced their prints in the early 1940's and stopped production when War broke out. Their prints made with the collotype printing process reproduced the image of the original down to the original lithographic inking making them very hard to distinguish. The print was then water colored based on Currier's original color scheme. These prints are now old enough for the paper to have developed some of the problems associated with antique prints, age toning, foxing, water stains, back board stains,etc. Image size 14 15/16 x 20 1/4" (379 x 515 mm). In attractive large early wooden frame.

Attractive & romanticized view of the Hudson Highlands with World's End, Constitution Island, and the Catskill Mountains in the distance. Two artists, one with a sketch pad, recline under tall trees at the right, and gaze down on the busy Hudson River, with full-masted ships & sloops. Lithograph with period hand color, 12 1/2 x 9 1/2" with margins, framed in what appears to be an archival mat. Conningham no. 2975.

New York, 1830. An unsigned oil painting on canvas of the Hudson Highlands on a sunny summer's day, looking north from West Point, and based on a work by Robert W. Weir titled 'View of the Hudson Highlands from West Point'. Robert Walter Weir (1803 - 1889) was a member of the Hudson River School of Art. Elected to the National Academy of Design in 1829, he also served as professor of drawing at West Point from the 1830's to the 1870's. His better known works include 'The Embarkation of the Pilgrims (at the rotunda of the US Capitol at Washington, DC) and 'Landing of Hendrik Hudson'. The view in this oil painting, by an unknown artist, is taken from Trophy Point looking north up the Hudson, with Cold Spring buildings on the eastern shore, and "Undercliff" prominently visible above the town. New York: Currier & Ives, 152 Nassau Street, 1862. Print. A patriotic image produced in the midst of the Civil War. The artist was Fannie Palmer, the renowned female artist at Currier & Ives, whose work is much sought after. To this day, this remains a splendid vista from West Point, looking from Trophy Point up the Hudson River, with cannons in the foreground, with the caption "Brass Mortars, taken in the Mexican War". Across the river is Constitution Island , Cold Spring and the West Point Foundry in the distance. The Hudson is a busy waterway, with a steamboat flying the US flag, full of schooners and other sailing craft. Printed area 15 3/4 x 12 1/2" with ample margins. A stereoview image of the ice flow in Garrison, New York, with two men standing on uneven ice and the West Point Ferry docked in the center. This image shows the Landing well before the park area was filled in, with the ice flows butting up against the buildings at the Garrison Landing. A very underdeveloped West Point is viewed across the Hudson. From the 'Beauties of the Hudson River" series No. 6686. Albumen images on front, text label laid on on verso. Image & verso are dusty and card corners are rubbed.

1867. Broadside. A broadside to memorialize Thomas Beverley Randolph, born in Cumberland County, Virginia. May 31 1792. He graduated West Point at age 20 and served as an officer in the Regular Army of the U.S. in the war of 1812 and in the war with Mexico. When offered a general's commission by Pres. Jefferson Davis he declined in the following words; "Virginian as I am, proud of my lineage and my State, educated at the U.S. Military Academy, having fought in two wars for the honor of my country, I cannot in my declining years turn my back upon the flag." (From "The Beverley family of Virginia; descendants of Major Robert Beverley, 1641-1687, and allied families.", Internet Archive. He died December 12th, 1867 and is buried near Dubuque, Iowa. Broadside, 11 1/2 x 7 1/2", text within black border. Slt. browning, very good overall.

New York: Harper's Weekly, 1877. Very good overall. A full page wood engraving of a gun salute over General Custer's grave at West Point, and the military funeral procession to the cemetery, from the Harper's Weekly, a long running American newspaper well-known for its wood-cut illustrations. General Custer is most known for "Custer's Last Stand", the Battle of Little Big Horn where he and all of his troops lost their lives. Later hand color, approximately 11 x 15 3/4", very clean, slt. toning at margins.

London: Printed for J. Cooke, 1785. Copper engraving by Dodd, a full length portrait of the Major standing with sword at his side in a rustic setting. With an ornate floral border with title in circular cartouche at the top "Engraved for Raymond's History of England". With a handwritten note in lower margin. One very small brown spot at lower right edge of decorative border, otherwise very good. 7 x 9 3/4"
