Edinburgh: E. & S. Livingstone, [1878]. First British Edition. stiff wraps. Slight offsetting to inscription caused by old newspaper clipping pasted to inner cover. Occasional soiling and wear. Very Good and scarce. Bound in original stiff green wraps rebacked with cloth retaining most of the original spine. INSCRIBED and SIGNED on the front free endpaper "To Rev. R. Eden, With the author's kindest regards. Mark Twain Sept. 5/78." According to BAL 3378, this edition was published in May 1878. In a 1936 sale held by the American Art Association, a copy of Clemens's Scrap Book inscribed to the Reverend Robert Eden in Sept. 1878 was sold. The Union Catalog of Clemens Letters makes no other mention of Eden.

Decorated green and white boards lettered in black. Illustrated with a frontispiece of Rogers. The great American humorist's take on Prohibition. SIGNED "Will Rogers" with the notation "Sincerely yours" by the author on the front endpaper. Rogers was born in Indian Territory in 1879 and had some Native American blood in his veins. He began in vaudeville and moved on to motion pictures, a career that was cut short when he died in a small plane crash in 1935 near Point Barrow, Alaska. Perhaps he was best known, however, for his syndicated newspaper column which had such a massive following that the proposition that he run for President was once seriously advanced. Oblong Folio (12" x 10-1/2") bound in modern full rust-colored morocco leather with gilt rules to the covers and gilt lettering on the front cover and spine, housed in a clamshell box with gilt-lettered morocco spine. A collection of 18 ORIGINAL INK-AND-PENCIL DRAWINGS, 2 SIGNED and dated '91 by Frost, to illustrate the story as published along with the published pages reproducing the drawings. In addition to the published drawings, there are a few related images or alternate versions not used. All are mounted behind glassine covers, with the largest drawing measuring 8" x 10" and most 6-3/4" x 5-1/2." We have been unable to identify the publication where this series appeared.
