Volume one is in very nice shape with some edgewear, shelfwear, bumped corners and some rubbing, former owner's small note inside front cover, front hinge a little tender. Volume two presents much more wear, with the front hinge being very delicate now. General shelf and edgewear, bumped corners. Fair condition at best. So, in summary, volume one is very good and volume two is fair.. First Edition. Half-Leather. Good.

Nd s/b 1852, despite other works indicating an earlier date, biographies of Leech's work place this binding at ca 1851-1852. Pebbled boards, leather spine and corners, gilt rules, faded gilt lettering on spine, 4 raised bands. Some scuffing of covers, bumped corners, front exterior hinge starting. Despite the previous owner rather foolishly reinforcing parts of the spine with masking tape (!!) to prevent the loss of the back strip, the rest of the book is quite good with clean pages, solid binding and hinges. . Autographed by Roberts with a note to his sister Elizabeth Roberts Macdonald also a remarkable Canadian poet ad writer (and who also signed the book) : "with but love and birthday wishes from Charles". Lovely light brown buckram cover depicting a raptor. The book's covers are rather worn, and both front and back hinges are weak, but the remainder of the interior is solid. An unusual association copy with two signatures.. Signed by Author. First Thus. Hard Cover. Fair to Good.

Interior pages quite good, most foxing confined to prelims. A fine solid copy of this uncommon title in Bohn's series. Hard Cover. Very Good.

No stated date, however catalogues indicate an original date of the late 1890s and the gift inscription on the title page is dated 1901. Decorative covers. Some overall wear and the binding is generally loose with front hinge starting. Age toning of pages. Despite flaws, still a nice vintage book.

Scotland: Edinburgh Bible Society , 1837. Full leather, printed 1837 by Anderson & Bryce for the Edinburgh Bible Society. Contains both the Old and New Testaments, along with the psalms. Brown leather, 5 raised bands on spine, design of the Edinburgh Bible society blindstamped on front and back. Some scribbles on endpapers, on the top of page 589, light foxing but generally quite clean, clear and completely legible. The leather is a little scuffed and rubbed with the start of some flaking on spine, but again, still quite good condition. Hinges are surprisingly strong, as is the binding in general. Slight outer bowing of covers, corresponding to some swelling of the pages towards the foredges.. Leather. Very Good.

Signed by the author under the copy number and also contains another signature and inscription by the author. It is addressed to a John Shaw Kimball/Kendall(?). Also contains the signature of a former owner of the book - Miss A.L. (?) Shaw of Ottawa Ontario Canada. Also contains the original bill of sale from the Library of Congress in Washington DC and a handwritten letter (still in original envelope from G. Bernard Shaw. The letter is dated 24th June 1931 and was sent from 4 Whitehall Court London. The text of the letter (2 pages) contains primarily genealogical information on the Shaw family, along with some of his personal observances on the subject. The book itself is a little scuffed and has a library tape repair of the front spine. The documentation included is in fine condition..

Very minor shelf and edgewear, lightly bumped corners. Most of the wear is confined to the head of the spine. Chocolate brown endpapers. Title page and FFEP present a small spot (about 1/2" in diameter), otherwise no obvious issues. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good.

NOW THE GOOD NEWS: Contains 7 wonderful pull out maps from the period. The maps are beautifully rendered and have many interesting pieces of "missing" information, particularly in the Americas and polar regions. Fascinating text. Despite serious cover flaw, still a marvellous item for the collector of antique maps and cartography. Leather. Fair. Illus. by Illustrated.
