Owner's bookplate on second front endpaper; minor wear to maroon cloth at foot of spine. The jacket is a little darkened on the spine, and has a few small chips at edges and corners. Laid in is a folded packet of 12 pen and ink drawings by Russell. Includes color illustrated endpapers, many illustrations (including color reproductions of Russell's work), acknowledgments, index, and a bibliographical checklist; 350 pages. A bright, clean copy.

Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1936. First Edition . Hardcover. First edition, very good+ in a very good dust jacket. Beige cloth with dark brown lettering on spine and front board. The book spine is just slightly darkened, and there is a 1/4" nick in the cloth at the top of the spine. Owner signature and date (1936) on the front endpaper, beneath which is affixed an uncancelled three cent postage stamp commemorating the Texas Centennial, also in 1936. The jacket has loss of about 1/4" across the top of the spine, and some edgewear and rubbing. Corners have small chips and the jacket has light general soiling. The $3.50 price is present on the front flap, and the book is square and tight. Includes two page map near front, illustrations by Harold Bugbee, a note on bibliography, and an index; 485 pages. One of the iconic books on the Texas cattle industry and Texas history.

Auburn and Buffalo: Miller, Orton & Mulligan, 1854. First Edition . Hardcover. Very good in original brown cloth. Front endpaper is missing; light foxing intermittently throughout book. The brown cloth is embossed with publisher's name on front and rear boards, and with small decorations inside ruled lines on both boards. The gilt lettering and decoration on the spine is still fairly bright. Small hole in the cloth near the bottom of the front gutter, and slight loss at spine ends. The pages are a bit stiff, although there is no evidence of dampstaining. Two pages of ads at rear, with a small stain on the last page of text that offsets to a few pages to each side. A few full page illustrations; genealogy of Daniel Boone's family in early chapters. A solid, square copy.

Has only 13 of the 35 illustrations, and 13 of the 23 plates. Also lacking the maps. An account of the early exploration of Utah; includes appendices and an index; 495 pages. All pages are present, and where plates are missing there is no evidence of their removal.
