"New and Improved Edition" on front cover and "Tenth American from the last London Edition",no date but circa 1855 (first was 1854). 101 pp. Illustrated with musical examples. A tight, bright example and quite unusal thus, couple light droplet marks front board, tasteful vintage bookplate front pastedown.

Original dark green cloth with silk-like wave pattern, small paper title label to front; blue endpapers; viii preface, 60pp, 16pp appendix. With musical notation in text. A characterful little publication, well-printed by J. McGowan of London for the author to sell. Some marginal brown marks and handling marks; clean endpapers, cloth has some fading to front margins; main problem is slack binding with one page loose and main text block loosening from spine. Still a Good copy. Pictures available.

London: Chappell &amp; Co., 1872. 12mo, pp. v, [i], 60, 16. Original textured purple cloth, printed paper labels to front board, edges sprinkled red. Just a touch of spotting. Spine a little sunned, labels slightly discoloured. Organist and composer John Freckleton Burrowes (1787-1852) first published his piano primer in 1818, and it remained in print through to the 20th century. This copy retains its printed paper advertising its reduced price of two shillings, an offer also printed on the title-page beneath the publisher&rsquo;s imprint.
