Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Cracking to hinges with exposed binding, causing boards to be slightly loose. Pages are lightly tanned and foxed throughout, heavier to endpapers and pastedowns. Some heavier foxing and brown staining to a few pages. Light thumb-marking present. Brown marking to text-block edges. Light creasing to a few pages. Boards have moderate edge wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Leather peeling to all surfaces, with noticeable scuffing and scratches overall. Loss to spine ends. Heavy splits along joints, with boards very loose. Scuffing to title to spine.

Contemporary full mottled calf, dark red and black morocco spine labels. Volume 4 Signed and dated by James Maginness (May 31, 1808), an eminent Philadelphia mathematician. Small ownership signatures in light ink and pencil, a handsome set, very good or better with scattered foxing and a professional repair to the rear hinge of Volume 1. George Adams was the mathematical and scientific instrument maker to George III.
