With a commentary provided by John Middleton Murry. Reproduced in facsimile from an original copy of the work printed and illuminated by the author in 1793 now in the British Museum. Eleven color plates, with text, printed on rectos only. First edition thus, facsimile edition. Top of dust-jacket flap price clipped, albeit original printed Dent price sticker affixed to lower corner of flap. Spine of dust-jacket darkened and front cover of jacket shows several old ring stains. The third full color facsimile in the Dent series, reprinting Blake's works. A fine copy in good dust-jacket..

Pawlet (U.S.A.) [Vermont]: (Set and Printed by Claude Fredericks), 1957. Softcover. Fine. First edition thus. Folio, measuring 11½" x 15". 12pp. Marbled wrappers with paper spine label. First two leaves with very light foredge toning from the wrappers, a bit of light wear at the spine else fine. A handsome production, published at Christmas by Fredericks "for the pleasure of his friends." Copy number 130 of 180 copies published. Fredericks was a poet, playwright, printer, writer, and longtime professor of literature at Bennington College in Vermont. He was the proprietor of the Banyan Press and also noted for the journal he kept throughout most of his life, ultimately consisting of over 65,000 pages.

Special Publisher's copy, signed with "Special publishers copy" in his own hand, by Arnold Fawcus, owner of the Trianon Press. Tall slim 4to. Salmon quarter morocco, gilt with gilt top-edge and hand-marbled paper covered boards in marbled paper-covered slipcase. Facsimile copy of the 1793 original edition, unpaginated on arches pure rag paper to match that used by Blake and watermarked with his monogram. Bibliographical statement to rear by Geoffrey Keynes. 4to. [Edmonton: William Muir, 1885]. 4to, 11 plates colored by hand. Modern half green calf, upper cover lettered in gilt. Internally very fine, binding a little soiled. § Limited to 50 copies, this copy (on Hodgkinson wove paper) lacking the printed wrappers with the limitation statement etc. This copy was based on the BM copy A. S. Foster Damon writes of Visions, “It is a continuation, though in thought only, of The Book of Thel. That represented the soul in the state of innocence; this the soul in the state of experience... It is primarily a protest against the sexual customs of the time.” (Damon, Blake Dictionary). The eleven plates of Visions were etched in relief, with slight touches of white-line work, and first printed in 1793. The characters and their words represent Blake’s critique of colonialism, slavery, sexual repression, and attitudes towards women in his day. Bentley, BB, 249c. (123177)
