Of particular interest is a small bookplate pasted to inside front board designed by Leonard Baskin of the Gehenna Press for a Molly and Bill Esty. Grolier book shop ticket pasted to 1st flyleaf. Binding is tight.

Striped cloth with paper a paper label on the srpine. This is one of an 500 copy first binding with striped cloth. No Jacket. Last printed page is uncut, information about the printing and press can be read.

Stated first edition, sometimes described as the first trade edition, but actually the second edition (see Edelstein), after the signed, limited first. Stevens's second book, bound in heavy ivory paper self-wrappers. Edelstein A 2.a. Of 135 numbered and SIGNED copies on Strathmore paper of a total edition of 165, this copy is not numbered but rather marked "Publisher's Presentation" on the colophon page. In addition to being SIGNED by the poet on the colophon, this copy is also inscribed by the publisher on the front endpaper.

Book is very near fine, offseting on the back inside blanks from a newspaper articles having been laid in, tiny nick on one corner. Paper covers and contents near fine and very fresh, not yellowed. An attractive copy of a fragile book. (Note that the slight darkened spots on the spine are where the cloth string binding is flush to the paper, causing some transfer, not soiled.) Housed in a beautiful custom slipcase (book in chemise, chemise in a sliding two-part case), quarter morocco over blue cluth. Edelstein A 2.a. Lacking the unprinted glassine.

Some small chips to glassine; else a fresh copy. The slipcase is lacking one side panel.. 8vo,. Publisher's presentation inscription in pencil on the half-title to poet and critic Ruth Lechlitner.
