Pages are lightly tanned and foxed, but text remains clear. Binding is firm. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Deckled edges. Boards and spine have minimal shelf-wear, with mild corner bumping and crushing to ends. Gilt remains bright. Boards are slightly bowed. Unclipped jacket. Noticeable tanning and foxing to all surfaces. Panels have light edgewear, with small tears, chips and creases, heavier to spine ends.

Spine also has several heavily rubbed areas. Binding has started between pages 176-177 and also 208-9. Worn gilding on top page edge. Pages are clean and unmarked, with toning. A few pages were never cut apart at outer edge. LO

This is a nice copy of this biography of the anti-union industrialist Henry Clay Frick (Carnegie Steel and the Homestead Strike). It was reprinted by his foundation from the Scribner original edition of 1928 ("Privately Printed"). He became a patron of the arts (the Frick Collection) with some of his enormous wealth. Two Frick Collection brochures are loosely laid in. There is a previous owner's name with "purchased .. 1965 at the Frick Collection" at the top edge of the front end paper, else this is a clean, unmarked, and tight book. The dust jacket has wear, but is still serviceable and presentable. The only date is 1936--it may be a reprint of the 1936 edition.; Frontis Illustration; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 382 pages .
