Ms. Weeden, a white Alabama poet and artist, wrote and illustrated this collection of dialect poems. Maria Howard Weened (1847-1905) helped support her war-impoverished family by the sale of her delicate watercolor paintings and her poems, a number of which were set to music. Her favorite subjects were African-Americans.
