Signed on title page to film producer Martin Ransohoff, "Dear Joan & Marty-the devil made me do it. In friendship Bruce." Martin Ransohoff 1927-2017) was an American film and television producer. His early TV successes (Beverly Hillbillies and Mr. Ed) enabled him to produce movies like The Americanization of Emily, The Sandpiper, The Cincinnati Kid, The Fearless Vampire Killers, Ice Station Zebra, Castle Keep, Catch-22, Silver Streak, and Jagged Edge among others. Friedman (1930-2020) once got into a quarrel with fellow writer Norman Mailer at the latter's house party. It turned physical when Mailer head butted him and Mailer's wife egged him on to "kill the bastard."
