Moderate foxing and tanning to pages with heavier foxing and tanning to pastedowns and endpapers. Pen inscriptions to front endpaper and front hinge is cracked with exposed netting. There is cracks to guttering with exposed netting and pencil inscriptions to rear endpaper. Binding is loose. Boards have visible rubbing and notable bumping to corners. Fair crushing to spine ends.

In good tan cloth boards, black titles to front and spine, tipped in colour illustration of two boys in street with paper boat on front. The covers are clean and very tight, spine ends and corners frayed and a little bumped. "The Clevedon Community Bookshop Co-operative Bindery Team have re-glued split spine. Tanned rear free end paper; the front paste down is slightly tanned, with name and 'Music Prize' in pencil. The front free end paper is missing. Age-toned cut edges. The text block is tightly bound, good, a little worn, with a few marks. "The Clevedon Community Bookshop Co-operative Bindery Team" have made some paper repairs and replaced a portion of page 125. Lovely colour plates by Alice Ross. No frontispiece. Rare.

A hint of scuffing to leather along spine margins, light 2" diameter dampstain with just a bit of color bleed to final leaf of text mirrored by similar flaw to rear cloth cover bound in rear, else Very Good to Near Fine, rather superlative. Uniquely extra-illustrated with eleven mounted color plates (with printed tissue guards) by Harry Clarke from his first book, also an early 20th century edition of Andersen's fairy tales first published by Brentano's in 1916. Clarke went on to illustrate works by Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Perrault, and Algernon Charles Swinburne, as well as designing more than 130 stained glass windows in the Arts and Crafts style.
