Description:
[Hanover, New Hampshire]: The Hopkins Center, Dartmouth College, 1972. Unbound. Fine. Poster. Measuring approximately 19¼" x 28". Shrinkwrapped onto foamcore. Unexamined out of shrinkwrap but appears fine. Warmly Inscribed beneath the title: "Matthew Wysocki, from Walker Evans / 1972 Hanover / in commemoration and celebration (and gratitude)." Wysocki was the head of Dartmouth's Visual Studies Department and had been in charge of choosing artists for the residency from 1962. He wrote the introduction to the catalog for this exhibition. A nice association. Walker Evans was a 1972 artist-in-residence at The Hopkins Center. This poster was issued in an edition of 100 signed and numbered copies as a 10th anniversary edition of The Hopkins Center; this copy is unnumbered. While the catalog for this exhibition is fairly common, the poster appears not to be. We locate no copies of the poster in *OCLC*.

[Hanover, New Hampshire]: The Hopkins Center, Dartmouth College, 1972. Unbound. Fine. Poster. Measuring approximately 19¼" x 28". Shrinkwrapped onto foamcore. Unexamined out of shrinkwrap but appears fine. Inscribed to John Szarkowski: "John Szarkowski / Incredibly keeping it up / Affectionately, Walker 1972." Walker Evans was a 1972 artist-in-residence at The Hopkins Center. This poster was issued in an edition of 100 sig ned and numbered copies as a 10th anniversary edition of The Hopkins Center; this copy is unnumbered, presumably one of a group given to Evans to distribute. While the association needs little explanation it is worth noting that the previous year (1971), The Museum of Modern Art mounted a major retrospective of Evans' work, featuring 200 images, and Szarkowski wrote the catalogue introduction. The exhibition is credited for causing a "rediscovery" of Evans' work. While the catalog for this exhibition is fairly common, the poster appears not to be. We locate no copies in OCLC or…
