1862. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover. Very good in the original black publisher's cloth with gilt title to spine and gilt emblem to front cover. Chipping to book cloth along spine ends and minor wear to corners and edges of boards. There is a two inch split to the book cloth along the bottom of the front hinge and a dime sized loss to the book cloth on the front cover. With numerous illustrations including a fold out view of New York from the sea (1790), several fold-outs of bridges and reservours, several color fold-outs of army regiments leaving the city during 1861, a large fold out of "Old New York - The Bouwery", and more. Several of the fold outs have closed tears and extra creases. Clean and bright. Previous owner's signature in pencil on front free endpaper. 775 pages. NY/022118.

New York: D. T. Valentine, 1863. Decorative Boards. Very Good. The 1863 issue of D.T. Valentine's epic 19th century manual of New York City. Tight and VG to VG+ in its navy-blue cloth, with lavish blindstamping and gilt-design and titling to the panels. Dozens of fold-out maps, charts and crests throughout, a number of them in chromolithography. A gennereous amount of engravings as well, all designed to give a deep visual sense of a city which by the mid 19th century was already teeming with life and commerce. Very thick 12mo, over 860 pgs. of text.

New York: McSpedon & Baker, 1850. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 5" x 7 1/2. FAIR/ NO DUST JACKET. FORMER LIBRARY BOOK. 552 pages. Text clean and unmarked except for usual library treatments. Multiple charts and maps throughout, six of them folded and tipped in. Green cloth boards with gilt gilt coat of arms at front, lettered in gilt at spine. Boards rubbed and soiled, corners worn to boards, spine top and tail rubbed. Front hinges starting to crack, back hinge good, text block broken at pages 288-289, all pages remain attached.

Chipping to book cloth along the spine ends and hinges. Both hinges are starting to split with cracks starting on the tops and bottoms of both. Minor wear to corners and edges of boards. With numerous illustrations including a large fold out Nicholls map of New York (1664-8), a fold out of the Steam Ship Roanoke, a color fold out view of Harlem (1765), several color plates of New York homes, and more. Discoloration and staining on some of the pages. Three fold out maps and multiple tables and illustrations throughout. Maps are slightly torn, as well as one of the illustrations. Library markings on the cover pages. Original brown embossed board with light brown lettering on the spine. Gilt seal on the front cover.Cover is torn at the top of the spine, and worn on the bottom of the spine and edges. Library tape on the outside. Binding and hinges are somewhat loose and cracked.
