Description:
Gene Tunney. Presumed first thus. Single slip, unbound. Good. This is a slip of paper approximately 5.5 inches long and 1.75 inches high. It appears to have been cut from a document. The name Gene Tunney is clearly written on one side. There is the start of the signature a little to the left of the actual signature, perhaps the first writing instrument did not have ink. The back side is blank. James Raj "Gene" Tunney (May 25, 1897 - November 7, 1978) was an American professional boxer who competed from 1915 to 1928. He held the world heavyweight title from 1926 to 1928, and the American light heavyweight title twice between 1922 and 1923. A highly technical boxer, Tunney had a five-fight light heavyweight rivalry with Harry Greb in which he won three, drew once, and lost once, though many ringside reporters believed Greb should have won the decision in their 2nd meeting. He also knocked out Georges Carpentier and defeated Jack Dempsey twice; first in 1926 and again in 1927. Tunney's successful…

Description:
New York: National Foundation for American Youth, 1940. Handbill. 8.5x11 inch handbill, printed one side; some toning to the blank reverse, not apparent from the front. Very good. Year of receipt (1941) penciled in the corner of the reverse. Joint statement issued after the 1940 election by the heads of the Young Democrats, the Young Republicans, and the National Foundation for American Youth. "This is a call to the youth of America--to Young Democrats, Young Republicans and all young people whose first interest is their country. The election is over: let there be no bitterness in the hearts of the losers, no vindictiveness in the winners. Those who lost fought for an ideal just as tenaciously as those who won. The greatness that is American democracy comes of Americans' willingness to heed the voice of its minorities and the election just completed has given the country the largest minority in our national history. Without rancor, with consideration for all, we can maintain our separate ideals and…
