With engraved illustrations throughout by Boyle. The spine ends are lightly chipped, minor wear to the corners. A very short owner inscription as well as a name stamped to the front free endpaper. To a rear blank there is an early "Happy New Year" embossed card measuring 2 1/2" x 3 3/4". All else is very good and tight. ; The Choice Series; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 39 pages .

Publisher's green pebbled and embossed cloth with near all-over intricate gilt-stamped floral design on cover by John Leighton, gilt spine. With 22 superb tissue-guarded color plates comprised lavishly illuminate border work, illustration and typography, by Mrs. W. H. Harley. Printed on one side only, interleaved with tissue. Sticker on rear pastedown, "Bound by Leighton Son & Hodge." "H. G. Goodday" [Horatio George] copy, with his signature. Front cover slightly stained and showing wear, internally very good with slight foxing to some tissue guards.

No issue date, but published during Tennyson's lifetime. Binding is solid. Each thick, stiff page is printed on one side, with a floral border by Summerbell, and is protected by a thinner page. Protective pages are tanned, and illustrated pages somewhat tanned. A few smudges, but no foxing. Black leather cover embossed with gilt titles and floral design -- some wear to edges, but titles all fine, and designs only a little rubbed. .
