No markigns, repair to the front hinge, several light small spots to bottom portion of fornt cover, a bit of rubbing to the cover corner tips. Good only use copy: no dust jacket perhaps as published. Green cloth, gold titles with image of Sheridan on a horse, tan patterned end papers, xi, 486pp, index, Frontis portrati and 8 B&W illus; 14 maps, some are fold-out (the large one facing page 26 has a tear in it). Philip Henry Sheridan was a career United States Army officer and a Union general in the American Civil War. His career was noted for his rapid rise to major general and his close association with General-in-chief Ulysses S. Grant. (2.9 JM HOQ 100/2. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾".

New York: Charles L. Webster & Company, 1888. These are Good only copies of Sheridan's memoirs. Full sheep leather binding; ruled and titled in gilt on the spine within red and black compartments. Clean texts; Volume One is 500 pages, with a frontis portrait; Volume Two is xi, 486 pages. Indexed, and with a frontis portrait. Marbled endpapers. Owner signature on the second FEP and bookplate on the front paste-down; signature also in Volume Two. Unfortunately, these books have been ill-treated in some way, with the result that the covers, while present, have been detached. Please note the condition issues. Quercus must offer these books as Binding Copies, in need of restoration or repair. Quercus offers that these are excellent candidates for a quality rebind, so the may be enjoyed for another few hundred years.. First Edition. Full-Leather. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Description:
2 volumes, engraved portrait frontispieces, wood engravings and maps, some folding. (8vo) original gilt decorated green cloth. Light wear to cloth, corners bumped; erasure marks on flyleaves from removal of previous owner's name, normal aging and browning; very good. A nice set. One of the Union Army's great heroes in the Civil War. He was ruthless in attacks on the Confederacy his destruction of Atlanta made him both feared and hated in the South. After serving with distinction in the Civil War, most notably as commander of the Union cavalry, Sheridan was transferred west, where he oversaw the settling of the Indians on reservations. Some feel Sheridan was hostile to Native Americans, and that showed in his treatment of them. He eventually rose to command the United States Army.
