Original black cloth hardcovers, titled in gilt on spines; dustjackets; xii,[1]-408; viii,[1]-388pp. Mild bumps to board corners; attractive printed bookplate of the Romanian-American Jewish scholar Shalom Spiegel (1899-1984) inside each front cover; texts clean, tight and unmarked - Near Fine. In the original printed dustwrappers, chipped at edges, toned and with some closed tears into margins; just VG. The second of the renowned Latinist's major works, following A History of Christian-Latin Poetry from the Beginnings to the Close of the Middle Ages (1927). Seldom found in such nice condition, especially with the original dustwrappers.

Oxford University Press, 1934. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. A handsome copy of the 1934 1st edition, complete in 2 volumes, with both volumes boasting their original cream-colored dustjackets. The books are tight and VG to VG+ in their royal blue cloth, with light spotting along several of the panels. Internally, clean as could be, with no writing or markings to speak of. And in crisp, price-clipped, VG dustjackets, with light, forgivable chipping along spine ends, panel edges and tips. Mild offsetting as well to the top-edges and darkening at the spines. Still though, very presentable and substantial, and uncommon in sharp examples of the fragile dustjackets.
