Original plum cloth stamped in blind and gilt, all edges gilt. Rebacked with faded original spine laid down, New endpapers Text block over-opened in two placed places. Small bookplate upper corner of front paste-down. Housed in a custom Clam-shell box. First Edition, First Printing. 12mo; 183 x 113mm, 7.5 inches tall. 320 pages. 4 color lithographed plates including frontispiece; Folding partly hand colored map, with the appendix. These were left out of the U.S. Edition along with the appendix. Includes Custom Clamshell box.. The expedition proved that Franklin's ships had not been lost in Baffin's Bay. Much of the success of the voyage was due to the steam tenders, which, opened new prospects for Arctic navigation.
