Originally published in 1894, this was the first of 14 works published under the nom de plume Fiona Macleod. This is probably a First American Edition, and identifies MacLeod parenthetically as William Sharp. He was not really "revealed" as Fiona MacLeod during his lifetime. William Sharp (1855-1905) was a writer and editor of poetry and a biographer and had already published several volumes under his own name before adopting the pen name of Fiona MacLeod. Sharp's sister Elizabeth occasionally helped with the duplicity and published a biography of Sharp/MacLeod after her brother's death. Blue cloth cover bumped at head and heal of spine. Edgewear.
