New York: Francis P. Harper, 1893. New Edition, limited. Hardcover. Good +. Octavo [24.5 cm] Green cloth over boards with gilt lettering on the backstrips. Volumes 1 and 2 have frontispiece illustrations. Cloth at spine ends a bit torn. Text block cracked here and there. Hinges of volume 1 going. Title page of this volume partially detached. With 3 maps in the rear pocket of volume 4. The maps have very sporadic short tears along the folds. One of the folding maps has a very tiny open tear (Map of Lewis and Clark's Route). Complete. A new edition, with copious editorial notes. One in an edition limited to one thousand copies. This is set No. 854 (printed on Fine Book Paper). A history of the first governmental exploration of the "Great West."
