Description:
London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1913. First Thus. Fine. Limited to One Thousand Sets, numbered and signed by the publishers. Ten large octavo volumes (234 x 160 mm) bound in late twentieth century three-quarter tan morocco over marbled boards ruled in blind. Spines with five raised bands decoratively tooled and lettered in gilt, top edge gilt. A fine set. Sir James Matthew Barrie, 1st Baronet, OM, more commonly known as J. M. Barrie, was a Scottish novelist and dramatist. Best known for introducing the world to Peter Pan, the Lost Boys, and the magical world of Neverland, he was also actively engaged in the theatrical world. Moving amid a wide circle of luminaries including George Meredith, Robert Louis Stevenson, and George Bernard Shaw, it was ultimately Llewelyn Davies and his family who influenced Barrie's works the most. Important to his personal and professional life, their active group of five sons inspired much of the world of Peter Pan. Fine.
