Description:
Shelton, CT: First Edition Library, 1968. This is a replica reprint of the first edition, from First Edition Library. Includes original FEL information card. The dj's most obvious flaw is the price is blacked out. Ouch! Perhaps someone did not want someone to think that they only paid $2.75 for it. It does have some light edge wear and edge creases and two small edge tears. Very light rubs and indentations. The slipcase has light wear at the corners and a few very light rubs and spots. Book is flawless and appears as new. . Facsimile Reprint. Hard with Slipcase. Very Good/Very Good/Very Good Slipcase. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall, 471 Pages.

[Pulp] Hemingway's novel explores themes of loyalty and courage, love and defeat, and the tragic death of an ideal. Hemingway, Ernest. For Whom The Bell Tolls. New York: Bantam Books, 1956. First edition first printing Bantam mass market paperback pulp. 502 pages. Measures 4.25" x 6.5". Plot follows Robert Jordan, a young American volunteer attached to a Republican guerrilla unit during the Spanish Civil War. As a dynamiter, he is assigned to blow up a bridge during an attack on the city of Segovia. It was published just after the end of the Spanish Civil War and in 1940 was declared non-mailable by the U.S. Post Office. In 1941, the Pulitzer Prize committee for letters unanimously recommended For Whom the Bell Tolls be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel for that year. The Pulitzer Board agreed. However, Nicholas Murray Butler, president of Columbia University and ex officio head of the Pulitzer board at that time, found the novel offensive and persuaded the board to reverse its determination;…
