Description:
New York: Thomas Y Crowell & Co., 1892. Finely bound in dark brown crushed morocco, stamped with gilt floral decorations, wide floral gilt turn-ins with complimentary floral end papers, top edge gilt, ribbon marker, the binding unsigned making it likely an example of late 19th c. American fine binding. The Preface by Austin Dobson, which first appeared in the "English Illustrated Magazine" for October 1890, traces the history of illustrated editions of The Vicar, although this edition makes no mention of its illustrators. The illustrations are, however, signed in the images and are mainly dated '89 and '90. Fine, prior owner name front end paper. A lovely little book in fine contemporary binding. . Illustrated Edition. Crushed Morocco. Fine/No Jacket, As Issued. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
