Foreword by the psychologist and sociologist Theodor Reik who points out that of all the sexual aberrations chastity is surely the strangest. Ginzburg explains in his introduction that the book is not an anthology but, rather, is one which presents samples of erotic writing woven together with comment on context, history and explanation as appropriate in order to give readers a larger and more meaningful view of the field.
