Owner's name lightly penned on FEP, otherwise no marks, clean and tight. viii + 276 pps + section of b/w photos and illustrations and section of cartoons of Englishmen in Canada. Dust jacket is unclipped, typical bumps on corners, top spine, but not torn. One 1/2" half circle section of jacket print is peeled off. Jacket now under archival acetate protection.Examines the experiences, impressions and reputations of these controversial settlers. I t recounts the fortunes of men like Major Samuel Strickland in Ontario and the follies ofothers like the Honourable Monty Elphinstone, would-be squire of Manitoba. It deals with the colonial colleges, training ranches and emigration leagues which catered to public school Old Boys, and with the aristocratic utopias that were established in the Canadian West.
