Description:
New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1923. First US Edition . Hardcover. VG+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. H. Hudson Rodmell. See photos for condition details. Maybe blue cloth boards show only minor handling wear, front board has a small wrinkle to the cloth along the top edge. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues other than some pulling at page 128. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings, and the only evidence of handwriting found is on the front end page where you can see in indentation in the paper where presumably a price was penciled and then later erased. The only thing that's keeping this out of a condition grade of near-fine or better is the presence of foxing on the half title and title page. The spotting was caused by the reacting of the frontispiece paper with the text paper.

Description:
London: Jonathan Cape, 1923. First Edition. First impression. Autographed letter tipped on to front pastedown, addressed to a C.L.P. Scott, Cambridge, dated January, 1924. Octavo; deep olive cloth, titled in black on spine and front cover; frontispiece and three unnumbered leaves of color plates; text illus. A straight, tight copy, somewhat foxed at prelims; Very Good, lacking the dustwrapper. A charming book on the identification of various seagoing vessels based on the silhouettes they present at sea, "and to offer a lookoutman's comments on their character and habits and tempers." The brief (ca. 60-word) letter, on "Anchor Line" stationery, concerns the hull colors of ships on the CPR (Canadian Pacific Railroad) Line.
